On the Passing of W. W. Bartley III

On February 5, 1990, William Warren Bartley III died of cancer at his home in Oakland, California. He had made a valiant struggle since learning of the disease in July, and the loss of him must come as a shock to all his friends and colleagues. He has requested that there be no memorial service.

We shall, of course, each of us remember him in our own ways, knowing that his loss is irreparable, and that the work he had tried even at the end to leave us will go unfinished. The work that he did leave remains in its vitality a wonderful consolation. Contributions may be made to the Cato Institute, Washington, D. C., and to the Institute for Humane Studies, George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia.
